Eating disorders affect the entire family, not just the patient. Often families of patients suffering from an eating disorder are not taught effective strategies nor provided the knowledge to help their loved one conquer their eating disorder. Family-Based Therapy, also known as Maudsley method in practice, is a very effective way to learn together and grow together. Research has shown Family-Based Therapy to be twice as effective at producing full remission of anorexia. Dr. D’Agostino is one of the few clinicians in South Carolina utilizing Family-Based Therapy and has successfully used this form of treatment with many families in both the outpatient setting and in a residential treatment center.
